Update: Spoke with Freda on the phone. She took my call and warned me she didn't have time to speak, which would be great, supposing she helped me during that time. Then proceeded to have the same conversation I had with her two months ago-- explaining my entire situation beginning to end. I brought up the sense of urgency of having little to no time left, and she blamed me for not having paid her the retainer. So, basically, blamed me for it, even though our only verbal agreement was that she would contact me back with semblance of a course of action. In which case she would have received any and all monies necessary. Instead, she hung up during a sharp yet fair and wholesome retort on my part. So two months after implying that she would gladly take my case, she blamed me for her and her office's shortcomings. Meanwhile, left me without representation with barely a week before a courts decison would need to be rendered.
I first spoke with Freda just after the end of the school year. She was out of town, but was very cordial and seemed pretty sharp. After explaining my situation, she stated she would look up the details of my child custody case and we would go from there. I did not immediately hear back from her, but at the time immediacy wasn't necessary. When after almost a month, she hadn't made contact, I grew concerned with the dwindling timeframe so I began to make more frequent calls. She called me back outside of our preplanned hours and I couldn't accommodate an in-depth conversation. From this point I called approximately three times a week for the entire month of July, leaving messages with her legal and office assistants. I warned them of the urgency of the situation and dwindling time-frame of action prior to my children returning to school in August, but never received a single response concerning any sort of consultation or possible plan. I have barely more than a week before my children return to school, but I was finally able to get ahold of Freda today. She was too busy to talk to me and recommended I call back to make an appointment for phone consultation--meanwhile asking if I paid my retainer and letting me know she's really busy next week too... Now, I don't have many choices at this point, and the outcome is yet to be determined. Otherwise, I'd caution anyone and everyone--for now--to avoid using her legal services at all costs. When and if the results have an opportunity to speak for themselves, I'll gladly change this review.
