I gave them 1 star because it wasn't possible to give them anything lower. I purchased a DirecTV bundle and living in Ruidoso they were they internet service that was included (AT&T not available). My agreement was for 25Mbps to be installed with phone service. After just short of 12 months of service had to have tech come to my house as we had no internet for over a week. When he looked it over I was told that when the install was done they never even wired it for my to receive the higher speed (Windstream considers 25Mbps to be a higher speed, and requires an additional $10/month fee). I was only receiving the lowest download service. He still couldn't get it working before he left. I called the customer service dept to explain this to them (it's funny when you're on hold waiting for someone and the recording blabs about how you are a valued customer, I found out how valued i was). When a supervisor finally got on the phone, I told them I was extremely upset about paying a $50 install fee for service that obviously wasn't installed correctly for me to receive the two bands that were required for me to get the higher download speed, and 11 months of payments for a total of appx. $150 or more for the higher speed service (which at this point i felt that Windstream was basically acting in a criminally fraudulent manner by charging for services they never installed). The supervisors response to me was that it was MY responsibility to make sure the service is installed and working correctly, but they would be happy to refund me $10. Yes, that's correct, $10. That's how much of a valued customer I am. I am 59 years old, have had to deal with an assortment of utility companies in my life, but have never had any company treat me as bad as Windstream has. And in my 40+ years of utility company services, no other service has told me it was MY responsibility to make sure it's working correctly. But they were happy to explain to me exactly where that little point was located in all the mumbo jumbo they hand you when you first receive and sign for your service. Wasn't that nice of him to go out of his way like that for me! I'll cherish the moment forever.
UPDATE: Currently, Ruidoso actually has a choice of internet service providers. Baha was bought out by TDS. TDS offers several packages (as most do), but at prices most people can actually afford. My plan includes up to 60 mps for $39/month, almost $80/month less than what I was paying Windstream, and more than double the service I was getting. Being with them for 9 months now, my complaints are few and minor issues that are resolved quickly by them. Seriously consider switching to TDS if you're in the Ruidoso area. Or, if you couldn't afford internet before, it may be possible for you now with their pricing.
Absolutely terrible. Every few months there’s always another problem. Randomly the service will shut off. Sometimes it will be on but so weak nothing streams and nothing loads. Its easier to use a messenger app on cell service than wait for it to load on the internet service. Would not recommend and am currently looking for a new provider.
The worst customer service EVER. Order after after order lost misplaced not handled. I have never worked with an company so bad. If there was another choice this firm would be out in a second the whole town talks about how bad they are...WHAT A JOKE… Windstream should be thankful for restrictive trade. If the FCC ever check on this office they would revoke their license, what a shame that a company would allow such behavior and poor representation.
If you live here in Ruidoso or Lincoln County, your internet service providers are slim, so having to deal with them may not be an option. But, if you are reading this and live in an area where you do have other service providers to choose from, think twice if you are leaning toward Windstream, and make sure you have lineman's tools and the knowledge to make sure all your purchased services are installed correctly.
Couldn't agree more with the last review. What's sad is that people depend on this service for their businesses. Windstream is a joke. If you call their number an automated voice explains that they will have everything fixed at 4:36 PM....yesterday. Today they say the same thing. I found out that that's a random time they always say they'll have it fixed. Crap crap crap.
