The best horseback ride I have ever done! Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, views were amazing, and it actually required paying attention to guide the horse. Loved it.
Horses looked to be healthy and in good condition. Horses pretty much follow each other and you don't have to do anything. Regardless, guide is with you all the time in case something happens. This place is pretty close to Lake Ella Rose/Grindstone and Inn of the Mountain Gods casino. Absolutely beautiful view on the trail. Wranglers are friendly and helpful.
Family and I enjoyed our first ride with them.
Just got done with our trail ride. They fit us in at the last minute. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful! We had a lead guide and a guide bringing up the rear. The weather unexpectedly turned questionable with a couple of pop-up storms. They sent 2 more guides to keep an eye on the storms. About halfway through our ride one of the storms was dangerously close and it was decided that we would turn around and go back. This was the correct decision! The rain wasn't a concern...it was the lightning! (One lady in our group was unhappy about having to return and let her opinion be known. Her small children were on the ride with us and she was more concerned about having to cut the ride short than the safety of her small children on a horse in a lightning storm in the mountains...go figure.) As we walked to our car we were approached by one of the staff members who compensated us for Mother Nature cutting the ride short. We had no expectations of any kind of compensation considering it was no fault of theirs that the ride was cut short. Sure you can argue they should be aware of the weather conditions, but these were monsoon-season storms that pop up without notice. Oh yeah, the views are awesome! The price is right. The horses range from a little hardheaded, like the horse my daughter was on (who needed a little more encouragement), to mellow - "go with the flow," like Sarge, the one I was on. I highly recommend this place to anyone, old and young, who is looking to trail ride in Ruidoso!!!
$35+tax+tip or $35+tip if pay by cash for about 1 hour ride. Take hat/sunscreen/glasses etc if going in summer and you are too sensitive with the light.
The staff are friendly and answer all questions. Also, they make sure you are comfortable prior to riding the horses. The cost of $35 is reasonable for the hour long ride you get as well.
Can't emphasize how much my family and I enjoyed this. The kids were well tended by the wranglers. The horses were in good shape and very well mannered. The trail was beautiful and had some interesting history. Great fun.
I gave 4 stars and not 5 because of two reasons: $35 is expensive! specially there are other places in town that are offering pretty much the same experience for $25-$30. Other reason, they do not stop for photos or anything like that during the ride.
Definitely check weather and call before you go to make sure they are open and can accommodate your party.
